Following up on one of my favorite posts – Coke Studio @ https://omarulhaq.wordpress.com/2009/04/11/coke-studio-ouh/ – I thought I would update you guys with some brilliant news.
After the popularity of Season 1, Coke Studio has recently returned to the recording studio with brilliant singers, an excellent band, and great passion for music. There are brand spanking new performances and episodes, which will be aired throughout the summer and the wait is finally over for all of us.
“This season, Coke Studio draws together the fundamentals of collaborative music that will showcase Pakistan’s rich music culture, by stitching into its fabric traditional artists, folk music influences and regional instruments in collaboration with Pakistan’s contemporary mainstream artists. With visionary Rohail Hyatt back at the helm, featuring this season are sensational stars Ali Zafar, Arieb Azhar, Atif Aslam, Javed Bashir, Josh, Noori, Riaz Ali Khan, Saieen Zahoor, Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan, Strings, and Zeb & Haniya.”
Someone just mentioned to me that Pakistani Idol has recently launched as well and I think it’s great that such talent is now finally being recognized and appreciated in our country.
For those of you who are not as familiar with the concept – “Coke Studio embodies a musical fusion of exciting elements and diverse influences, ranging from traditional eastern, modern western and regionally inspired music. Seriously, i cannot wait. I just can’t wait! I heard that Noori has done the title song for coke studio this year? Not the main singer ali noor but his brother ali hamza who is usually on the bass.
Oh, yes, I was a bit of a (ok, a lot of a) Noori groupie, I’m also tres excited about the rest of line-up, this is going to be the schitt! can’t wait.
Guys – since most of us are in Pakistan mode today as we won the cricket match, please do me a favor and check out the second season of Coke Studio ASAP! It’s phenominal. I finally found the music online on facebook and the quality is amazing. Atif Aslam, Noori, Fuzon, Zeb & Haniya, everyone has done an amazing job. I just heard each and every song. So many people were trying to access the site that it was temporarily unavailable. Atif Aslam, Ali Zafar, Josh and Shafqat Amanat are a few of the singers featured in this one.

Atif Aslam does a medley of a punjabi song Wasta Pyar Daa with Billie Jean! It actually was pretty amazing (especially the ending and the classical raags) but I had a few issues with the pronunciation/accent (people alVays told me instead of people alWays told me & i am the VUN instead of i am the ONE).
What was ABSOLUTELY amazing was Zeb & Haniya’s performance with Javed Bashir. They sang Chal Diye which was my FAVORITE song on their CD. It’s absolutely magical. I especially love it because the girls said that the song is an ode to Islamabad!

Zeb did a brilliant job with Chup this time. I hope the duo sings Aitebar in the finale on August 14th! I want Haniya to sing too…she has a great voice.
This weeks episode was amazing! I enjoyed each and every song and was deep & lost in though on the Bulleya one especially.
